Online singing brings people together for a song and a smile

Jan. 13, 2021

As face-to-face group singing remains restricted due to the risk of COVID-19, Fight Parkinson’s remains committed to providing an outlet for people to come together to sing from the safety of their own homes.

After a successful trial last year, we now invite all peer group participants and the wider Parkinson’s community to join us for Open Singing sessions.

The emotional benefits of singing are wide-ranging and can include:

  • improved confidence
  • reduced anxiety
  • increased feelings of well-being
  • reduced feelings of social isolation

Singing can be an excellent form of exercise, providing a work-out for your voice and lungs and releasing endorphins to make you feel energised and uplifted. At the very least, you are sure to have fun!

We invite you to join our Music Therapist on selected Fridays from 11:00am to midday for a one hour open singing session on the Zoom platform.

These sessions are free to attend, but you need to register your attendance so we can send you the link to join us.

Open singing sessions via Zoom are designed to help people stay connected and experience the joy of singing together.

Please note, open online singing is not the official ParkinSong program, which incorporates intensive vocal exercises and communication activities, specifically targeting communication skills in people with Parkinson’s.

Fight Parkinson’s is committed to ensuring the safety of the Parkinson’s community and is working closely with all Parkinson’s Peer Support groups, including ParkinSong groups, to ensure the smooth and safe return to face-to-face meetings in line with Government regulations.
