A new clinical trial aimed at building further evidence around the ‘dosage’ of exercise required for optimal benefit from physical exercise and dance will officially launch at Fight Parkinson’s InSearch research lecture in Geelong on World Parkinson’s Day, Thursday 11 April.
Information about the clinical trial will form part of the presentation by renowned physiotherapist and movement disorders expert, Professor Meg Morris, one of two researchers speaking at the InSearch research series lectures in Geelong, Wangaratta and Melbourne.
Also speaking at all three locations is acclaimed physiologist and neurobiologist, Associate Professor David Finkelstein.
Insearch provides a unique opportunity for Victorians to hear first-hand about research being carried out with the potential to greatly enhance the lives of people living with Parkinson’s.
Anyone interested in learning more about the science behind Parkinson’s, presented in a factual and easy-to-understand format, should attend one of these informative lectures.
Guest presenters
Assoc. Prof. Finkelstein, Head of the Parkinson’s Laboratory at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health and Fight Parkinson’s Chair, will share his research into new compounds and treatments for Parkinson’s that are improving quality of life for people with Parkinson’s.
His presentation will focus on the science and potential around:
- Two compounds currently in early stage clinical trials
- New approaches to stem cells
- Gut and eye problems in Parkinson’s.
Prof. Morris, Professor of Healthscope and La Trobe University’s Clinical & Rehabilitation Practice, will focus on the importance of exercise, physical activity and dance to the health and wellbeing in people living with Parkinson's.
