Researchers seek participants for communication changes study

A research study investigating communication changes in people with Parkinson’s is seeking Victorian participants.
The study is being conducted by Edwina Jessop, a 4th year Speech Pathology Honours student, and her supervisors and Lecturers in Speech Pathology, Dr Gabriella Sharpe and Dr Marie Atherton, from Australian Catholic University.
It aims to explore communication changes experienced by people with Parkinson’s disease and the impact these changes may have on social participation and quality of life.
The findings will help to provide health professionals such as Speech Pathologists with an insight into the social experiences and wellbeing of people with Parkinson’s disease. This means that health professionals will be able to better meet the communication needs of people with Parkinson’s Disease.
The research is open to all people who:
- Have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (confirmed by a neurologist).
- Consistently take their Parkinson’s medication, if needed.
- Have experienced communication changes due to Parkinson’s disease.
- Communicate in English without an interpreter or a communication device.
You will participate in two 60 minute sessions, one a communication assessment and the other an interview.
