Aged Care Royal Commission Submission
Nov. 06, 2019
Fight Parkinson’s has made a submission to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, detailing the issues people living with Parkinson’s and Atypical Parkinson’s experience in the aged care system.
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety was established on 8 October 2018 by the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove. An interim report was released on 31 October, with a final report due by 12 November 2020.
“As the peak body representing Victorians living with Parkinson’s, we wanted to highlight the very real issues facing those living with a progressive condition with symptoms that are complex and unpredictable,” said Fight Parkinson’s CEO Emma Collin.
“Our submission was based on key issues raised with us regarding access and interactions with community and residential aged care - as well as observations and insights of our experienced Health Team,” she said.
Fight Parkinson’s submitted that access, education and clinical care were the key challenges to delivery of high quality residential and community based aged care for people living with Parkinsons and Atypical Parkinson’s.
